Telegram Ads vs Facebook Ads — when to choose what
Honest comparison of Telegram and Meta advertising — targeting, audience, pricing, creative format, scale.

Both Telegram Ads and Facebook Ads are major paid-acquisition channels in 2026, but they optimise for very different things. This article gives an honest comparison.
#TL;DR
- **Facebook Ads** — granular per-user targeting, massive scale, mature tooling, expensive premium audiences
- **Telegram Ads** — context-based targeting (channels/topics), narrower scale, cheaper for niches, privacy-first
Pick Facebook for broad B2C scale. Pick Telegram for niche audiences, crypto/web3, or geo-specific (CIS, MENA) launches.
#Targeting model
The fundamental difference:
- **Facebook** targets *people* — age, gender, income, interests, behaviours, lookalike audiences from your CRM
- **Telegram** targets *contexts* — channels, topics, languages, geo. No per-user demographic targeting at all
This is by design. Telegram's privacy stance is foundational. If you need behavioural targeting at the individual level, Telegram won't deliver. If contextual is enough, Telegram often outperforms.
#Audience and scale
Reach numbers (approximate, 2026):
| Platform | Monthly active users | Ad-monetised |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook + Instagram | 3.4 B | Yes, since 2007 |
| Telegram | 950 M | Selective, since 2021 |
| Mini-apps inside Telegram | 400 M+ | Yes, via Stars |
Facebook reaches roughly 4× more users globally. But Telegram concentrates audience by geo:
- **CIS** — Telegram > Facebook by ≈2×
- **MENA** — Telegram ≈ Facebook
- **SEA** — Facebook > Telegram by ≈3×
- **LATAM** — Facebook > Telegram by ≈2×
- **US / EU** — Facebook > Telegram by ≈5×
If you target Russian speakers, Telegram beats Facebook flat. If you target US-suburban, Facebook wins by a mile.
#Pricing
Direct CPM comparison (2026):
| Niche | Telegram (where it sits in the band) | Facebook (Meta Ads) |
|---|---|---|
| Crypto | cheap end on TON, top of the band on the competitive side | $15–40 (restricted) |
| iGaming | high, narrowed by geo restrictions | banned in most geos |
| VPN | mid-band | $8–20 |
| Mini-apps | mid-band | n/a (no equivalent surface) |
| News | floor end | $3–8 |
| E-commerce | top of the band | $8–25 |
Telegram's column is deliberately relative: we do not measure CPM, and the only floor the platform publishes is 0.1 TON. The band itself — roughly $0.5–6 across niches — is ADSLY (2026-04). Facebook's figures are its own public benchmarks.
Telegram is typically 3–10× cheaper per impression — but the impressions are also 2–3× less qualified due to no per-user targeting. Net effect: similar effective CPA in many niches, with Telegram clearly winning for crypto + iGaming (Facebook restricts these heavily).
#Creative format
Facebook supports rich formats: video reels, carousels, dynamic catalogs, AR ads, lead forms. Telegram is constrained:
- 160-character text limit
- Single banner image (1280×720)
- One CTA button
- Static (no video, no carousel)
For creative-heavy brands, Facebook wins on format optionality. For text-driven B2B / fintech / education, Telegram's minimalism is actually a plus — forces clarity.
#Moderation
Facebook moderation is faster (often instant) but bans more harshly — appeals are notoriously hard. Telegram moderation is slower (1–4 hours) but more transparent — you get clear rejection reasons and can iterate.
#When to pick which
Use **Facebook** when:
- You need 1M+ daily impressions
- Your audience is best-described by behaviour/demographics (e.g. "women 25–34 in Texas interested in yoga")
- You sell e-commerce products with visual catalogs
- You're in a non-restricted vertical (not crypto/iGaming/etc.)
Use **Telegram** when:
- You're crypto / web3 / DeFi (Facebook restricts you)
- You target CIS / MENA / SEA-crypto audiences
- You launch a mini-app (only Telegram has App Center)
- You want cheap reach for niche audiences ($0.5–2 CPM)
- You value privacy-first positioning for your brand
Use **both** when:
- You're a $100K+/month advertiser — diversification reduces single-platform risk
- You have global audience and want to cover every geo
- You're testing creative angles cheaply on Telegram before scaling on Facebook
#What about Google?
Google Ads (Search + Display + YouTube) is a third major channel with its own logic — high-intent search vs. broad display. Most mature advertisers run all three (Telegram + Meta + Google) with channel-specific creative.
